Jewelry

For a few years Friday night was Steel Sculpture Night. I looked forward all week to going to the Spruill Art Center and getting really, really dirty and sweaty wrestling with the big metal. There was also a Friday night jewelry class -- the jewelry teacher would wander outside where we worked and hang-out with us. He was a black-smith as well as a jeweler.

We struck up a friendship and Tom kept telling me "You should try jewelry, it's just little metal sculptures". After a while, I did try jewelry - and it really is little metal sculptures! Sweet! Of course I loved it.

That was five or six years ago and I still do jewelry today. I am very much into stone setting. Jewelry is a amazingly deep and wide art and I have much to learn. I suspect I will be exploring jewelry for a very long time to come. Lucky for me, Tom is great guy and a great teacher. I'm looking forward to the journey ahead.
